Just like people. dogs also benefit from touch...
for therapy or the ultimate in relaxation
Massage can be used to integrate non-threatening touch to a nervous animal or give a loving, purposeful touch to older animals. Animal massage is not just petting it is a purposeful touch applied to the muscles and skin of the animal for a specific outcome. That outcome could be related to age, illness or competition.
Acupressure is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses finger pressure at specific points on the body to promote balance and healing, physically and emotionally.
Massage & acupressure are very beneficial when performed as routine care.
Handicapped dogs especially appreciate bodywork because it relaxes overworked muscles and restores blood flow to muscles that are not used. Butch is in a rear cart and his front legs and chest are very developed from pulling himself around. He gets regular massage to these muscles and to his rear legs that are not functional to balance him out and to generate blood flow. Acupressure is used to strengthen his immune system as these dogs can be susceptible to bladder infections.
Reiki in an ancient Japanese healing art that promotes wellness by balancing the body's energy. Animals are very receptive to receiving reiki as the light touch is very relaxing. Most animals will fall asleep during the session.
CranioSacral Therapy addresses the central nervous system. It works with the cerebro-spinal fluid as it circulates thru the spine and brain and has the ability to calm or energize, regulate fluids and release constrictions in the body. Gentle, safe and non-invasive. The body decides what it needs and takes care of itself.
The fees for healing therapies begin at $45 per session, according to time spent and treatment. Sessions usually last 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the dog. Travel fees may apply. Sessions may also be added to your pet's overnight stay.
Disclaimer--these therapies do not take the place of veterinary care. You should consult your veterinarian for your dog's health issues
